Hello! Welcome! I’d like to start this thing off by getting something off my chest: I’ve officially been trying to write this first post for 3 weeks now. UGH. I KNOW! It’s especially frustrating because I want to create this space as a way to work through my anxiety/perfectionist tendencies when it comes to my artistic practice and it’s already getting in the way ~insert eye roll here~ So here we are. I had written whole paragraphs about how the idea of starting a blog feels self-centered and strange and even though it makes me more than a little uncomfortable, it's still something I feel is important for me to do. I’m trying to lean into my vulnerabilities here à la Brené Brown and create a space where I can channel my creative impulses. I had been working on the “perfect” first post to encapsulate the vibe and ethos of this space, but “perfect” is the death of creativity so they say and if I keep waiting for “perfect” then Second Place Studio will never become a thing. Even the name, Second Place Studio, was supposed to be a reminder that it doesn’t matter if you’re the best, you just have to play the game.
So here I am, whipping this intro out, short and sweet, and stepping into the arena ~ thumbs up to our Patron Saint Brené Brown~. The hardest part about any project, in my opinion, is starting it and seeing all of the possibilities and paths you can take and deciding which way to go. The choices can be paralysing and you’ll spend 3 WHOLE WEEKS OR MORE second guessing your decision to even start this thing. But you know you want to start this thing, so you just have to do it--even if it’s not perfect.
In conclusion: Hello, internet. My name is Jamie and this is my website. It’s imperfect and always will be, but obviously so am I. You can expect posts about things I'm making or want to make or updates on my life or my beautiful pup Georgia. I would love to hear from you as well! Your thoughts and projects and inspirations. If you’re like me and need a nudge or a push to start something, we can be that for each other! I’m really good at telling people they should do stuff… creatively speaking.
So anyways, if you are here reading this, Thank you. I hope you come back when there’s more on here, but if you just stop in this one time I am still forever grateful <3
